Regarding Our Attitude Toward the insignificant. 2022. Ink and bronze pigment on paper, 240 × 630cm
The ink-colored plants depicted in the work are derived from the artist’s impression that withered plants, even after their lives have ended, seem to sustain their own stark forms and embark on a new kind of existence. Within the work, one can also find towers hidden among the thickets, modeled after the three-story stone pagodas commonly found in temples. By incorporating both the symbolic and structural narratives of these pagodas—monuments that honor the dead beneath the ground while reaching closest to the sky—the artist seeks to reinterpret them alongside the imagery of plants.

Jongchan Pagoda(種讚塔). 2022. Ink and bronze pigment on paper, 220 × 135cm
Drawing on the motif of the three-story stone pagodas commonly found in temples, the piece incorporates both the symbolic and structural narrative of the pagoda—which honors what is buried in the earth by elevating it closest to the sky—and reinterprets it in dialogue with plant imagery.
Dovarium. 2021. Ink, modeling paste, bronze pigment and dried plants on paper, 162.2 × 260.6cm
The starting point of using dried plants as a material was Dovarium. The word Dovarium is a coined term that combines dove and vivarium (an artificial ecosystem). At that time, while working with hybrid pigeons as a subject, I created this new concept with the intention of providing an artificial habitat for them. Drawings of pigeons, plant objects, and paintings together constitute a single Dovarium.
